Mentorship Details

Research Focus: Omics and Systems Biology of Cancer-related Symptoms

Grants Funded: NIH/NCI R37 CA240658 (PI) American Cancer Society (ACS) IRG-97-150-13 (PI) NSF DEB-1011061 (Co-PI)

Research Summary: My program of research uses a systems biology approach that centers around using phenotypic data and genomic, transcriptomic, and epigenetic data and bioinformatic analyses to improve our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying common symptoms (e.g., fatigue, pain) experienced by oncology patients. In addition, we are using machine learning approaches to develop and improve risk prediction models that would assist clinicians to identify high risk patients and provide recommendations for activity modifying interventions. This type of research requires that I am an integral member of large transdisciplinary research teams. In those teams, I enjoy mentoring the design of research questions and generation of hypotheses, the analysis of various types of genomic data, and the interpretation of the study’s findings.

Mentorship Interest: Genomics, Bioinformatics, Systems Biology
