Study Description: This study focuses on social, clinical, and genomic factors that are predictive of physical functional outcomes after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH), a devastating form of stroke, and one in which there are great disparities in outcomes between African American and Caucasian patients. As a part of grant R01NR017407, we have collected salivary samples from aSAH patients >12 months post-stroke, focusing specifically on enrolling a racially diverse cohort of participants. We have detailed social and clinical phenotype data, along with neurological and quality of life outcome data for these individuals. We also have a smaller prospective study that collects blood and cerebrospinal fluid from hospitalized aSAH patients, and a large (2000+ individuals) repository of longitudinal EMR data on aSAH outpatients from Semmes Murphey clinic. We also have access to controlled sequencing and RNA-seq data from blood and human brain tissues from the Genotype x Expression (GTEx) database as a result of our Common Fund supplement that is associated with this project.
